The core units of competency in the qualification cover common skills for the civil construction industry as well as specialist units in operation plant and equipment.

To be awarded the RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations, competency must be achieved in twenty (20) units of competency. These are comprised of 15 Core units and 5 Elective units.

5 Elective units
All electives are based on the work that you carry out to ensure training is suitable to your workplace.

Training for this qualification is conducted on the job over 12 months.

 

To be eligible for this program you must be working in the industry and have access to a live work site and some relevant plant and equipment.

It is also recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course.

You will also need to undertake a Pre-Training Review.

You may be eligible for Skills First Funding if you are:

  • an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an approved bridging, protection, safe haven or humanitarian visa; and

  • living in Victoria

  • enrolling in no more than 2 Skills First funded programs this year

 

This course is delivered on site in a flexible way that fits in with your work. After consulting with you, your trainer will visit you at your worksite. Cooperation and communication with your trainer will help the training and assessment process. Some Registered Training Organisations may require theory assessments to be undertaken online in your own time.

The delivery is designed to fit in with a modern working environment. If there are areas of civil construction work you have not undertaken, you may be required to attend workshops designed to work around your work schedule.

Students can commence this certificate at any time of the year, provided you meet the entry requirements.

 

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course offers formal training for people working in the civil construction industry. It can be used as an additional qualification for those in the construction industry carrying out associated civil construction works. Opportunities to operate your own business or work on larger projects will be an outcome from this course.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills across a number of key areas of the construction industry as well as skills in specialised tasks working with civil construction plant.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course will lead to higher level studies, including the Certificate IV in Building and Construction and the Diploma in Building and Construction, which can assist with becoming a registered builder.
